Our client is an Austrian biotech company specializing in the discovery of immune-based solutions (monoclonal antibodies, vaccines) against skin microbiome species that cause dermatologic conditions associated with dysfunctional skin microbiota. The company is part of a global healthcare company and is looking for a Senior Scientific Leader in Vienna for the Center of Excellence (CoE) for Skin Microbiome.

Your tasks and responsibilities

  • Implementation of a successful strategy in alignment with the Global Head of Skin Microbiome to explore the interaction between host and microbe by establishing a core unit of excellence within the CoE for Skin Microbiome
  • Leading a team of Scientists and Senior Research Associates on projects to discover therapeutic interventions of skin microbiome-associated diseases
  • Support of the Site Head/Global Head of Skin Microbiome in building both scientific and technological competencies, furthermore contribute to shaping and executing the strategy by engaging in transversal and external collaborations, as well as training and developing future scientific talents at the site
  • Develop and implement cutting-edge immunological, cellular as well as in vitro/ex-vivo assay systems to validate different interventional approaches (biologics, vaccines)
  • Identify and validate emerging novel technologies to expand translational capabilities of the Skin Microbiome CoE (e.g., tissue/ex vivo models)
  • Design, execute and analyze experiments in collaboration with other groups within a diverse multidisciplinary team
  • Identify, establish and lead external collaborations and external sourcing solutions
  • Keep up-to date with new relevant scientific and technological developments, contribute to writing and reviewing scientific reports as well as method validation reports, publications and grant applications

Your skills and experiences

  • PhD in Immunology, Dermatology or related fields
  • Several years of work experience in the life science industry with a focus on investigation of immune signaling pathways and applied research used in therapeutic product development
  • Deep technical and conceptual knowledge of a variety of immunological methods and models for investigating immune cell signaling and humoral immune responses
  • Familiarity with models used in skin and microbiome research (in vitro/ex-vivo skin models, animal colonization and inflammation models, histological methods, microbiome metagenomic studies, etc.)
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at the same time and work with multidisciplinary teams in a cross-functional and goal-oriented environment
  • Communicative personality with excellent leadership skills - not only able to lead, but also to inspire and develop others
  • Highly reliable, responsible and curious personality, willing to learn and to develop new skills
  • Proficiency in English is required, German knowledge is an advantage
